In this lesson, we will learn:
✅ How to make negative sentences in Tamil.
✅ Different ways to express “No” or “Not” in Tamil.

🔹 1️⃣ Basic Structure of Negative Sentences
In Tamil, we can make a sentence negative by adding words like:
- இல்லை (illai) → “Not / No”
- மட்டும் இல்லை (maṭṭum illai) → “Not at all”
- வேண்டாம் (vēṇṭām) → “Don’t want / No need”
- -அில்லை (-aillai) → Verb negation suffix
Positive vs Negative Examples:

| நான் தமிழில் பேசுகிறேன். | நான் தமிழில் பேசவில்லை. | I speak Tamil. / I do not speak Tamil. |

| அவள் வந்து விட்டாள். | அவள் வரவில்லை. | She has come. / She has not come. |
| அது நல்லது. | அது நல்லதல்ல. | That is good. / That is not good. |
👉 Exercise: Try making these negative!
- நீ புத்தகம் படிக்கிறாய். (You read a book.)
- அவன் வேலை செய்கிறான். (He works.)
- இது உண்மையான். (This is true.)

📌 Present Tense (தற்போதைய காலம்)
Structure: Verb + இல்லை

| அவன் வேலை செய்கிறான். | அவன் வேலை செய்யவில்லை. | He is working. / He is not working. |
| அவர்கள் படிக்கிறார்கள். | அவர்கள் படிக்கவில்லை. | They are studying. / They are not studying. |
📌 Past Tense (கடந்த காலம்)
Structure: Verb + இல்லை

| நான் உணவு சாப்பிட்டேன். | நான் உணவு சாப்பிடவில்லை. | I ate food. / I did not eat food. |
| அவர்கள் பார்த்தார்கள். | அவர்கள் பார்க்கவில்லை. | They saw. / They did not see. |
📌 Future Tense (எதிர்காலம்)
Structure: Verb + மாட்டேன் / மாட்டார் / மாட்டோம்

| எனக்கு பிடிக்கவில்லை | eṉakku piṭikkavillai | I don’t like it |
👉 Exercise: Try translating:
- I do not have money.
- He is not at home.
- She will not come today.
🔹 4️⃣ How to Answer Yes/No Questions Negatively?

| நீ சாப்பிட்டாயா? | இல்லை, நான் சாப்பிடவில்லை. | No, I did not eat. |
👉 Exercise: Try answering negatively in Tamil:
- Did you go to school?
- Is he your friend?
- Will you help me?
🔹 5️⃣ Practice Sentences (பயிற்சி வாக்கியங்கள்)
✅ “அவன் போகவில்லை.”
(Avaṉ pōkavillai.) → (He did not go.)
✅ “நீ அழவில்லையா?”
(Nī aḻavillaiyā?) → (Did you not cry?)
✅ “இது சுவையானதல்ல.”
(Itu cuvaiyaṉatalla.) → (This is not tasty.)
✅ “அவர்கள் பேசமாட்டார்கள்.”
(Avarkaḷ pēsamāṭṭārkaḷ.) → (They will not speak.)
✅ “எனக்கு வேலை கிடையாது.”
(Eṉakku vēlai kiḍaiyātu.) → (I do not have a job.)
