🔹 1️⃣ Describing a Location (இடங்களை விவரிப்பது)

When describing a place, you can mention nearby landmarks, buildings, or streets. Here are some useful phrases:

• “_____ அருகில் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ arukil irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is nearby.”
• “_____ எதிரே இருக்கிறது.” (_____ etirē irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is opposite.”
• “_____ அருகிலுள்ள பெரிய கட்டடம்.” (_____ arukiluḷḷa periya kaṭṭaṭam.) → “A big building near _____.”
• “_____ பக்கத்தில் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ pakkattil irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is next to _____.”
• “_____ பின்னால் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ piṉṉāl irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is behind _____.”

📌 Examples of Describing Locations

🔹 2️⃣ Talking About Distance (தூரத்தை சொல்வது)

To talk about how far a place is, you can use these phrases:

• “_____ அருகில்தான் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ arukiltāṉ irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is very close.”
• “_____ சிறிய தூரத்தில் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ ciṟiya tūrattil irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is at a short distance.”
• “_____ நீண்ட தூரத்தில் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ nīṇṭa tūrattil irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is far away.”
• “இங்கு இருந்து _____ கால் மணி நேர பயணம்.” (Iṅku iruntu _____ kāl maṇi nēra payaṇam.) → “From here, it’s a 15-minute journey to _____.”
• “_____ இரண்டு கிலோமீட்டர் தூரத்தில் இருக்கிறது.” (_____ iraṇṭu kilōmīṭṭar tūrattil irukkiṟatu.) → “_____ is 2 kilometers away.”

📌 Examples of Talking About Distance

👉 Exercise: Try explaining the distance for:

1. A cinema hall 1 kilometer away.
2. A school 10 minutes from your home.
3. A beach that is far from your location.

🔹 3️⃣ Using Landmarks to Explain Directions (அடையாளங்களை பயன்படுத்தி கூறுவது)

Using well-known landmarks makes it easier to guide someone.

• “நீங்கள் பெரிய கோயிலை கடந்து செல்லுங்கள்.” (Nīṅkaḷ periya kōyilai kaṭantu celluṅkaḷ.) → “You should cross the big temple.”
• “பழைய தியேட்டரின் பக்கத்தில் ஓர் கடை இருக்கும்.” (Paḻaiya tiyēṭṭariṉ pakkattil ōr kaṭai irukkum.) → “There is a shop next to the old theater.”
• “அந்த பெரிய மணிக்கூண்டு கட்டடத்துக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிறது.” (Anta periya maṇikkūṇṭu kaṭṭaṭattiṟku etirē irukkiṟatu.) → “It is opposite the big clock tower.”
• “நீங்கள் முந்தைய சந்திப்பை கடந்து வலப்புறம் திரும்புங்கள்.” (Nīṅkaḷ muntaiya cantippai kaṭantu valappuṟam tirumbuṅkaḷ.) → “Cross the previous junction and turn right.”

📌 Example Conversation: Using Landmarks for Directions

🔹 Person 1:
“நூலகம் எங்கே இருக்கிறது?” (Nūlakam eṅkē irukkiṟatu?)
→ Where is the library?

🔹 Person 2:
“நீங்கள் நேராக சென்று பெரிய கோயிலை கடந்து வலப்புறம் திரும்புங்கள். நூலகம் மருத்துவமனைக்கு பக்கத்தில் இருக்கும்.”
(Nīṅkaḷ nērāka ceṉṟu periya kōyilai kaṭantu valappuṟam tirumbuṅkaḷ. Nūlakam maruttuvamaṉaikku pakkattil irukkum.)
→ Go straight, cross the big temple, and turn right. The library is next to the hospital.
