Asking for Directions (திசை கேட்பது)

When you are in a new place, you might need to ask for directions. Here are some useful phrases:

Where is the temple?	கோவில் எங்கே?	Kōvil eṅkē?
How do I go to the market?	சந்தைக்கு எப்படி போகலாம்?	Cantaiyku eppaṭi pōkalām?
Which way is the bus stand?	பேருந்து நிலையம் எந்த வழியில்?	Pēruntu nilaiyam enta vaḻiyil?
Is the railway station far?	புகையிரத நிலையம் தொலைவா?	Pukaiyirata nilaiyam tolaivā?
How many minutes will it take?	எத்தனை நிமிடம் ஆகும்?	Ettaṉai nimiṭam ākum?
Can you show me on the map?	வரைபடத்தில் காட்ட முடியுமா?	Varaipaṭattil kāṭṭa muṭiyumā?

Example Conversation:

நீங்கள் கோவிலுக்கு எப்படி செல்லலாம்? (Nīṅkaḷ kōvilukku eppaṭi cellalām?) → (How can I go to the temple?)
நீங்கள் நேராக சென்று இடது பக்கம் திரும்புங்கள். (Nīṅkaḷ nērāka ceṉṟu iṭatu pakkam tirumbuṅkaḷ.) → (Go straight and turn left.)

Giving Directions (திசை சொல்வது)

English	Tamil	Pronunciation
Go straight	நேராக செல்லுங்கள்	Nērāka celluṅkaḷ
Turn left	இடது பக்கம் திரும்புங்கள்	Iṭatu pakkam tirumbuṅkaḷ
Turn right	வலது பக்கம் திரும்புங்கள்	Valatu pakkam tirumbuṅkaḷ
Walk forward	முன்னால் நடந்து செல்லுங்கள்	Muṉṉāl naṭantu celluṅkaḷ
Go back	பின்புறம் செல்லுங்கள்	Piṉpuṟam celluṅkaḷ
Cross the road	சாலை கடக்குங்கள்	Cālai kaṭakkuṅkaḷ
Near	அருகில்	Arukil
Far	தொலைவில்	Tolaivil

Example Sentences:

நேராக சென்று வலது பக்கம் திரும்புங்கள். (Nērāka ceṉṟu valatu pakkam tirumbuṅkaḷ.) → (Go straight and turn right.)
பேருந்து நிலையம் அருகில்தான் உள்ளது. (Pēruntu nilaiyam arukiltāṉ uḷḷatu.) → (The bus stand is nearby.)
நீங்கள் சாலையை கடந்து போனால் சந்தை இருக்கும். (Nīṅkaḷ cālaiyai kaṭantu pōṉāl cantai irukkum.) → (If you cross the road, the market will be there.)

Asking for Help (உதவி கேட்பது)

Sometimes, you may need help in different situations. Here are useful Tamil phrases:

I need help	எனக்கு உதவி தேவை	Eṉakku utavi tēvai
I lost my way	நான் வழி தொலைந்துவிட்டேன்	Nāṉ vaḻi tolaintuviṭṭēṉ
Where is the hospital?	மருத்துவமனை எங்கே?	Maruttuvamaṉai eṅkē?
Please call an ambulance	தயவுசெய்து மருத்துவ வண்டியை அழைக்கவும்	Tayavuceytu maruttuva vaṇṭiyai aḻaikkaṉum
My phone is not working	என் கைபேசி செயல்படவில்லை	Eṉ kaipēci ceyalpaṭavillai
I don’t understand	எனக்குப் புரியவில்லை	Eṉakkup puriyavillai
Speak slowly, please	தயவுசெய்து மெதுவாக பேசுங்கள்	Tayavuceytu metuvāka pētuṅkaḷ

தயவுசெய்து என்னை மருத்துவமனைக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லுங்கள். (Tayavuceytu eṉṉai maruttuvamaṉaikku aḻaittu celluṅkaḷ.) → (Please take me to the hospital.)
